The Fashion Oscars: Expectations from THE MET GALA 2014

Waiting impatiently for this year's biggest event can also term it as 'The Fashion Oscars' which is just a few days away from now coinciding with Cinco de Mayo : The MET GALA 2014 !

So what is it that makes it so special this year?

First Lady Michelle Obama will cut the ribbon on the exhibit—and Anna Wintour's gallery—the morning of May 5th. She will also speak at the ceremony, but it's unclear if she'll attend the gala.
This year's exhibit will honour Charles James: Beyond Fashion, a great American couturier. Nearly every important work of James' career will be on display, spanning his career from the early '20s to the late '70s. This is the first single-designer show since 2011's ode to Alexander McQueen.

The Cost of Fashion
But the actual news is this year the attendees will have to shell out a little more from their deep pockets as the tickets are costing a whopping $25,000.

Strict Dress Code
And the Oh so Immaculate Dress Code this year : The White Tie and Decorations
Its a total Vintage Royal theme. A surge of evening gloves and jewelled themed gowns are expected from the ladies. French glovemakers Perrin Paris are expected to cover the digits of a number of attendees. As for the men A black tailcoat, a waistcoat, a wing-collared shirt, and white bow tie, bonus accessory to keep an eye out for: Top hats. What makes me curious is to see the 'Decoration' part, I'm guessing some medals or something like a State Affairs event style (would be interesting). So there will be hardly any room for the worst dressed this year, just Ladies n Gentlemen's !

The Expected Attendees So Far

   Prada: Lupita Nyong'o, Michelle Dockery
   Prabal Gurung: Zoe Saldana
   Givenchy: Amanda Seyfried
   J. Mendel: Taylor Swift
Diane von Furstenberg: Margot Robbie, Olivia Munn
   Tommy Hilfiger: Zooey Deschanel

Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz will be in attendance with a mystery celebrity, and not with in house model Emma Stone. Other guests include Jessica Chastain, Emilia Clarke, Naomi Watts, Jessica Pare, Allison Williams, and current cover girl Kim Kardashian.

Let's wait with bated breath for the Most Royal Turnout Event of this Year (till then let me polish my Etiquette!)

From Saree to Saree-Gown: The Drape Story

The age when I started playing dress up with my mom's clothes there was only one thing that I was obsessed with 'Saree' yes the six yard drape that is worn in a traditional as well as fashionable way in India one can call it as the National Symbol in Fashion, its sexy, elegant and mesmerizing! I couldn't drape it then so I used to just round it up my waist and wear all the colourful bangles, bindi, makeup  and necklace and feel like a perfect 'Indian Princess' to amuse me further my mom used to click pictures of me in that attire and I would happily pose. She always has a huge collection so it was a different 'Saree' everyday!
Well I know how to drape it now and still pose in it (Old habits die hard!)

Saree:-

The saree is one of the world’s oldest and perhaps the only surviving unstitched garment from the past. Over the millennia, it has not only become a sensuous, glamorous all-time-wear for women, but also the ‘canvas’ for weavers and printers to create artistic weaves, prints and jewelled or gold-silver embellishments! The saree can be a shimmering silk, or fine cotton or an elegant chiffon material. It can have the most intricate embroidery with silk threads or even silver and gold threads. The colours can be vibrantly bright or subdued pastels. There are sarees to match every mood and every occasion to suit every budget. The saree has an ageless charm since it is not cut or tailored for a particular size. This garment can fit any size and if worn properly can accentuate or conceal. This supremely graceful attire can also be worn in several ways and its manner of wearing as well as its colour and texture are indicative of the status, age, occupation, region and religion of a woman.
The traditional 6 yard saree allows for generous pleating, and draping around the body and over the shoulders almost Grecian in style. The loose end of the fabric, which is thrown over the left shoulder, is known as ‘Pallu’. Pallu usually has extensive design or embroidery woven into it. saree is very flattering to all shapes and sizes and forgiving of the various flaws. It can ingeniously conceal the extra flab of fat, or it can accentuate the well-proportioned curve -- It is just a matter of how you drape the saree. This garment is in style for over 5000 years for the simple reason of its simplicity and practical usage.

This demure garment is a very versatile garment too. The pallu has a very multi-purpose use to it. In case of slight chill in the air, put it around the shoulder like a shawl, if it gets very cold wrap it around the head like a scarf. The saree is so practical to wear that you can even run a marathon in it with out any problem.
Different parts of India have different styles of draping the saree:-

 Maharastrian Style:-

In the state of Maharashtra the traditional saree is nine yard long. This saree does not require a petticoat or slip, and is more like a pant with the saree accentuating the derriere. Different parts of the country also prefer certain texture of saree . This preference is mainly due to the weather and availability of the fabric in that region.
Southern Style:-

The Southern style of wearing the saree is, however with pleats in the front and the pallu falling over the left shoulder. In the South, silk sarees reign supreme. Cotton sarees on the other hand are very popular in Bengal and Maharastra. For weddings and special occasions silk sarees are the norm. Typically the wedding sarees have gold (gold is pounded very thin and made into threads) woven into them.

Bengali Style:-
The Bengali women have a style of their own with the pallu falling over their shoulders to the front.
 Gujrati Style:-

The Coorgi style is daringly worn without a choli and with the pleats in front.
It is the faithful comfortable Gujarati style of wearing the ulta-pallu that finally finds wide acceptance among women all over India. The style of draping a saree keeps changing with the pallu over the left shoulder for the conventional version or over the right one for the Gujarati look. Designers always try to project the saree in a new light. For formal wear it is still the first choice among the majority of women.

Draping the saree is not as easy as it seems and hence a new trend has emerged 'Saree-Gown'

Saree Gown :-

Fashion has come a long way and so it has evolved the modern women has put up with some more emerging and fashionable trends due to the hectic life and time constraints the gowns fashioned to have the appearance of sarees or that look inspired by sarees are growing in popularity. 'Saree -Gown' is the perfect choice for the Gen-Next. Its easier to wear and has no hassel of draping, they are made to look a little bit more “Western,” they do not have as much of the intricate embroidery details, which makes them an appealing choice for women who want to strike a balance between traditional and modern terms of fashion. With the beautiful Bollywood brigade flaunting this trend it set to increase its presence in the fashion conscious world at large.

So which one would you choose Saree or Saree-Gown ? Till then let me Drape !

Coachella 2014 Makeup Is So Indian!

The biggest music fest is on and we have seen a lot of style, fashion and glamour going on with it.
What caught my attention most was that a lot of Indian makeup and jewellery style used by the celebs this year. The theme of dressing mainly centred around Gpysy, Boho and Freestyle these Indian makeup trends go along very well with the look.

1. The Bindi

The bindi is arguably the most visually fascinating of all forms of body decoration. Its part of the Indian Tradition one can argue that it represents a religious or status symbol. In the modern terms its used more to enhance one's beauty.Wear a bindi or a decorative mark on your forehead and you will never go unnoticed as it is very eye-catching.
The bright and colourful bindi comes in various colours and can be matched with the outfit. Youngsters Vanessa Hudgens, Selena Gomez and Kendall Jenner have given a very fashionable twist to the traditional bindi.

2. Nose Ring

Nose rings may seem new and trendy in the west, but they have existed for centuries in many parts of the world and have stood the test of time in many countries, particularly India.
Nose rings, although closely associated with Indian culture, actually originated in the Middle East. Nose rings first appeared in India during the Moghul period around the 16th century. In fact, excavations in India have not turned up any evidence of nose rings in India prior to the 16th century.
In fashion terms its a piece of jewellery worn to contribute to the overall face lift. Its beautiful, delicate and intricately made perfect for a stylish traditional outfit. Kendall Jenner wearing the rose ring with short denim and top makes a simple outfit so stylish she has certainly started a new fashion makeup trend.

3. Silver Bangles & Statement Jewellery

There is a sea of silver bangles and statement jewelleries and it makes very interesting to notice it.
Silver is very ethnic and tribal, most of the tribal women in India use it to adorn themselves. In modern fashion sense it goes along well with gypsy or boho outfits adding warmth and vibrancy to the wearer.

Things to learn from Stylish People !

Sure, dressing yourself in the coolest labels and “It” items might give you a boost of instant sartorial gratification, but in six months those pieces will be obsolete, you’ll be out a month’s rent, and you’ll feel compelled to keep up with the cycle of buying the next round of coveted pieces.
Yet, so many women seem to be falling victim to this cycle. Blame it on today’s street style-obsessed world. Years ago, most young women working outside fashion wouldn’t have necessarily been aware of what the big ‘It’ items were within the industry, unless they truly loved and followed fashion.
Today, all they need to do is take a quick peek at Pinterest, or visit any one of the gazillion personal style blogs that exist, and they’ll be inundated with up-to-the-minute images of Céline, Proenza Schouler, Givenchy, Chanel, and other top-level labels, which can often create a bit of FOMO. And that, in turn, can result in scores of young women looking, well, exactly like everyone else and going broke in the process.
Then, however, there are those images you’ll see on blogs or street style sites of women who look so amazingly chic, cool, or interesting who aren’t covered in head-to-toe labels, but rather know how to take nondescript pieces and style them in such a way that their whole look is completely enviable and covetable.
These, friends, are the truly stylish women we all should aim to take our fashion inspiration from.

1. They don’t surf street style blogs and copy exactly what they see, label for label.

In this day and age, street style photos are a bona fide source of fashion inspiration. In fact, we spend a pretty hefty portion of our day stalking Pinterest and culling various galleries to offer our readers (and ourselves) great ideas when it comes to seasonal outfits.
However, just because you saw Taylor Tomasi Hill, Miroslava Duma, or Anya Zirhouva draped in Kenzo, Chanel, or Céline—or because you’ll be in New York during Fashion Week and want to get snapped by Phil Oh—isn’t a great reason to go out and splurge on the same stuff.
Don’t forget: Several big street-fashion players, editors, and bloggers get sent designer stuff for free to entice folks like us to go out and buy it. Others are, well, richer than us and it’s their day job to flit around the world in the latest designer clothes, which is fun to admire but not necessarily healthy to emulate.
That’s why truly stylish girls will see a look they’re drawn to and seek out lesser-priced pieces that have the same vibe. Plenty of affordable stores and sites offer items that feature similar aspects to designer pieces.

2. They aren’t afraid of any store—and can find something almost anywhere.

Legitimately stylish women will troll any—and we mean any—store with zero snob factor, yet they stay true to their aesthetic.
For example, she won’t be afraid to pop into a cheesy-seeming teen store at the mall, but that doesn’t mean she’ll leave with the same things her 12-year-old cousin would. She might find some killer black leggings, a shrunken blazer, the perfect pair of skinny jeans, or some great costume jewellery.
Same goes for fast-fashion haunts like Forever 21, dusty old thrift stores, and off-price havens like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Century 21, which are consistently packed with great stuff at non-sucker prices.

3. They know how to style themselves according to their own taste.

Isn’t it always the case that the most stylish girls will say “This blouse? It’s from Goodwill like 100 years ago” and actually mean it?
Yeah, the blouse itself is probably pretty cool, but it’s really the way she styled it—maybe she tucked into great-fitting jeans, unbuttoned one extra button, rolled up the sleeves, and added some cool necklaces—that made everyone comment on it.
The trick is to go with what your style is. More into menswear? Find a similar blouse, button it all the way up, and add a tailored blazer to put your own spin on it.

4. They always look a little less “done” than everyone else.

Highly stylish people are often in the habit of always appearing a teeny tiny bit too cool for every scenario they’re in.
This might mean wearing a pair of slip-on sneakers when every other girl is teetering on heels, wearing a chic skinny pantsuit when every other woman is rocking glittery party dresses, or chopping her hair into a messy bob when everyone else has long beachy waves. Small things that always make them look a little less “done.”

5. They understand labels don’t make them cooler.

It sounds cliché, but the most stylish women—and men, for that matter—in the world are ones who have confidence, and who know they don’t need expensive clothes and bags to make themselves appear cool.
These folks can step out in a faded grey tee and jeans and still look like the coolest person in the room all because they have confidence (okay fine, and probably a killer haircut, too.)

6. They aren’t especially trendy.

Some of the most stylish people are the ones who rarely shift from a basic overarching aesthetic, whether that aesthetic is made up of minimalist staples, or colourful flashy pieces. As time goes on, they’ll replace items with newer, more modern-looking ones, but they’ll never fall victim to fly-by-night trends.

7. They don’t dress to be considered stylish.

Before blogs, before street style, and before Fashion Week became a competition for who has the most attention-grabbing clothing, young women dressed for themselves, their lifestyle, and what looked good on them.
Believe us:  It doesn’t matter if those heels are Alexander Wang—if you can’t walk in them, you won’t be considered stylish. Throw on a pair of comfortable ankle boots with that mini dress, you’ll look much cooler.

Inside the Crazy Coachella !

Coachella Music Festival  is the answer to Glastonbury, welcoming a huge bill of acts (184 this year) from across most popular music genres, including rock, hip hop, dance and indie.
Roughly 90,000 passes are sold for both three-day weekends – a cumulative amount that is over 10 times the population of the tiny city of Coachella, and roughly equal to the population of the whole Coachella Valley area. That said, the festival is smaller than Glastonbury, which has sold 135,000 weekend tickets this year.

Which bands and musicins to watchout for this year ?
Hip-hop’s coolest duo Outkast make their long-awaited return with a Coachella headline slot – their first live show for eight years. They’re joined as headliners by stadium prog-rock heavyweights Muse, and Canadian troupe Arcade Fire, whose recent Reflektor album added a danceable new-wave pulse to their epic art rock.
Only a fool would pass up the opportunity to see Pharrell Williams while he’s at the peak of his pop powers. His Saturday night slots should be one big “happy” party.
For more laid back thrill, try Beck: his gorgeous, serene new album Morning Phase sounds like some great lost Laurel Canyon folk classic.
Elsewhere, catching reformed Minneapolis punk-rock heroes The Replacements is a must (if they can hold things together for long enough to make it on stage), as is making time for teen pop empress Lorde and US rapper Nas, who is celebrating 20 years of his seminal hip hop album, Illmatic. Indie fans would be well-advised to catch Jeff Mangum’s cult psychedelic folk act Neutral Milk Hotel, who have reformed and are playing gigs for the first time in 14 years. Also keep an eye out for Neko Case, Waxahatchee, Superchunk, Little Dragon, Goat, A$AP Ferg and Bombay Bicycle Club.
Baltimore synth-rockers Future Islands are finally getting the recognition they deserve thanks to their excellent fourth album, Singles, so a triumphant Coachella seems inevitable. Aside from them, Australian slacker-rock poet Courtney Barnett, Chicagoan upstart Chance the Rapper, and shivery RnB newcomer Banks are three to watch.
There are loads of Brits on the bill – from arch art-rock seducer Bryan Ferry to Brit Awards-conquerors Ellie Goulding and Bastille. Perhaps the most exciting British act is Blood Orange – a.k.a. Devonte Hynes – who is best known for producing singers Solange Knowles and Sky Ferreira’s forays into plaintive Eighties pop. His album, Cupid Deluxe, blends the bleary synths and funk guitar of Prince with throbbing RnB beats and jazzy experimentation. Live, he could go two ways: will he give Coachella a raucous pop carnival, or moody navel-gazing? Either way, it’ll be worth finding out. If that doesn’t sound like your thing, CHVRCHES, Disclosure, Frank Turner, Laura Mvula and Rudimental are among the other UK acts on the bill.

Who are the stylish crowds so far at the Coachella this year ?
We have a host of big names from the music industry as well the young and restless from hollywood attending this year, bohamian, gypsies style and short crop tops with style statement jewelleries and boots and cow boy hats ruled the roost. We can see Katy Perry hanging out with pals in her new green hairdo, Selena Gomez clicking selfies with Kendell and Kylie Jenner, Vanessa Hudgens her gypsy style pouting out for the cameras,Rita Ora in her braided style and Jared Leto the Oscar winner enjoying the warm weather with the festivities. Popular stars of 'Pretty Little Liars' Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchelle and Troian Bellisario were seen posing for a pretty picture together.
We are waiting to see if Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart attend the festivity together this year giving their fans a chance to believe they are still together!

Short Girl Woes : Get the Tall Look!

God made me short and sweet and hence I'm always mistaken for a school girl till date! I wish my legs would grow taller but no, Oh! the pains of trying to find a good pair of jeans! They never fit! You either have to roll them up a million times or put up with walking around like you’ve shrunk them in the wash! Don’t get me started on midi-skirts either…(just no) But thankfully I can cheat and look a few inches higher to atleast match my age and here is how :-

Match your shoes to your stockings or pants
Giving yourself a monochromatic look to create a clean line. Without different colours breaking up your feet from your legs you can appear to have giraffe legs.

Go for the black
Darker colours on your bottom half will help have a slimming effect. You can opt for pants in grey, oxblood or black to help make your legs look thinner and longer.

Find your perfect nude
Pair a nude pump with your outfit to give the appearance of longer legs. If your nude is matched correctly you will be unable to tell where your leg ends and foot begins. Find the perfect nude for you with the Christian Louboutin Nudes app so you can nail it every time.

Buy high-waisted anything
The pants will lie above the hipbones to give you a few extra inches of "leg". Avoid low-waisted items that will make legs look shorter. You can also tuck your shirt into your waistband making your torso look shorter and legs longer.

Get your Beetlejuice on
Vertical lines trick the eyes into thinking there is more length than there actually is. You can get the same effect from creasing, piping, or buttons vertically on clothing.

Ditch the ankle strap
Yes they’re trendy but they’ll cut your leg off at the foot cutting length. Short boots do the same thing so go for the tall boots, open toes are also a good investment.

My Favourite Makeup Trends For Spring/Summer

A Vibrant makeup gives a new definition to the face and makes you feel beautiful and spring/summer is the time to try out various shades of lipstick and eye makeup inspired by nature. With brightly coloured lids and bare faces, embellished hair and stark polish do it on your personal style or imitate the celeb fashion brigade.
Here are some of my favourite make up picks :-

1. Soft Berry Lips :-
A great way to wear soft berry lips is to first apply a clear coat of lip balm. This will moisturize your lips so they don't look dry when you apply colour. Next, take a berry lipstick and apply it to your lips using your ring finger. This will distribute colour to your lips without looking to heavy or over- done. This doesn't have to be perfect. Simply apply the colour and press your lips together to smooth out any harsh lines.

2. Orange Lips :-
I'm using a lot of this trend I just love my orange lips its so summery. When it comes to orange lipstick, go for a colour with more red in it as opposed to more yellow. Too much yellow in an orange lipstick can be tricky to wear because it can make you look sickly. Unlike berry lips, orange lips look best when they are neat and clean. Take your orange lipstick and apply it with a lip brush to get a smooth line and even application. Clean up any mistakes with a Q-tip.

3. Blue Eye Shadow :-
This Spring, think saturated colours across the eyes. There are several ways to wear cerulean blues so it should be easy to pick a style that suits you best. One way is to line the lower lash line with the colour while keeping the top half of the eye naked or neutral. Another way is to pop the colour on the outer corner of your eye while keeping the inner two thirds of your eye free of the vibrant colour. Lastly, the most subtle way to add colour is with an eyeliner. Simply line your waterline and add mascara to curled lashes with neutral lids.

4. White Eye Shadow :-
White looks pristine on the eye think about giving it a cat eye look with a thin white liner adding a hint of glitter to it.

5. Glowing Skin :-
Glowing skin is beautiful paired with the pops of colours mentioned. To keep your look from falling flat, make sure your skin is taken care of by exfoliating, moisturizing, and keeping a light hand when applying foundation. You want to look fresh for Spring, so stay away from heavy duty foundations that can make you look cakey.

6. Pop of Green :-
This colour is definitely for colour lovers. Take any green shadow and drag it along your lower lash line. Keep the rest of your look neutral and let the green be the stand out. Think creamy shadow on the lid and a basic brown in the crease.

7. Art Pop :-
In an age when the beauty aesthetic, due to the increased accessibility of celebrity imagery, is becoming increasingly homogenized the art of changing your face into a canvas is the new style trend.Use your artistic skills and create a bright blue or green combined look for the eye and go for a bright orange lipstick. Inspired from Art by Lady Gaga.
